History

Established in 1994.

Here at Royal Maroon our standard is to provide you with authentic Caribbean Flavor. Our recipes originated in Portland, Jamaica and have been handed down from generation to generation. Throughout the years we have continued to use a unique blend of herbs and spices to consistently give you that taste of the Caribbean that you desire. Not only are we committed to bringing you great, home-made flavors, but we also pride ourselves on excellent customer service to enhance your total experience. Meet the Manager, Mike M.

 

Originally from the district of Moore Town in the parish of Portland, Jamaica; Chef Mike began cooking at an early age. Mike comes from a long line of cooks and his family recipes and traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. His mother, Islyn, was a great inspiration to him and taught him almost everything he knows about cooking. He’s had years of experience creating and re-creating recipes and has discovered his own unique cooking style. In the early 90’s he opened The Royal Maroon Carryout with his wife and his mother. This small family business started off selling primarily produce, whole-foods, and health food items and has developed into a well-known carryout restaurant throughout the City of Baltimore.
If you ask Chef Mike what the greatest part of his job is, he will tell you “Cooking, but most importantly serving and getting to know my customers because at the Royal Maroon we treat you like family”.
